Gunning Masses — High-Performance Refractory Materials for Fast Application
Gunning masses are specialized refractory mixtures designed for application by spraying inside industrial equipment operating under extreme high-temperature conditions.
What Are Gunning Masses?
Gunning masses are ready-to-use dry mixes or pastes composed of refractory powders, binders, and additives. When sprayed and hardened, they form a durable, heat-resistant protective layer that shields metal structures and other surfaces from thermal damage, corrosion, and wear.
Advantages of Gunning Masses:
- Fast Application: The spraying method allows quick coverage of large or hard-to-reach areas;
- Strong Adhesion: Ensures long-lasting bonding to the substrate;
- High Thermal Resistance: Suitable for working temperatures up to 1600°C (2912°F) and beyond;
- Corrosion and Leak Protection: Prevents penetration of aggressive substances to the base metal;
- Cost Efficiency: Minimizes equipment downtime and reduces maintenance expenses.
Typical Applications:
- Metallurgical furnaces (blast furnaces, converters, open-hearth furnaces);
- Cement industry (calcining kilns);
- Power generation (boilers, furnaces, heat exchangers);
- Chemical plants (reactors, roasting furnaces);
- Construction and repair of refractory linings.
Types of Gunning Masses:
- Basic formulations based on alumina, magnesia, chromia;
- Acidic, neutral, or basic compositions depending on the operating environment;
- High-temperature and wear-resistant mixes with special additives for enhanced performance.
